OTHER TRAINING

FLAMES

FLAMES is an inter-university training network rooted in the five Flemish universities: Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Ghent University, Hasselt University, University of Antwerp, KU Leuven – University of Leuven.

This network aims to support young researchers in their pursuit of best-in-class training in methodology and statistics by providing an overarching, structural, large and high-quality course offer for doctoral students and young empirical researchers. In addition, our courses are open to participants from outside academia. Flemish universities provide world class science and teaching and stand for high quality experiences.

The overall goal is to strengthen research across the universities in a spirit of collaboration, while the participation of persons from the other sectors (among others public and private sector) can facilitate the interaction between the industry and the academic world.

FLAMES seeks to optimize, intensify, and extend the methodological and statistical training currently offered by Flemish universities.

VIB

VIB (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology) offers scientific and technical skills courses to help VIB and non-VIB researchers to excel as a scientist in increasingly interdisciplinary and fast-evolving times. It is convinced that next to being an excellent scientist, being a great people and project manager, having clear communication and presentation skills, and many other soft skills are equally important in one’s career. TRAINING at VIB gives scientists and support staff the opportunity to put together a personal, high-quality training program tailored to each individual career path and ambition.

Training at VIB consists of four main categories: Science, Skills, Bioinformatics & Coaching.

VSC

The Vlaams Supercomputing Centrum (VSC) provides specialized training to enable users to make efficient use of its supercomputing infrastructure. As the high-performance computing (HPC) center of Flanders, VSC supports researchers, analysts, and industry professionals in mastering the tools and techniques necessary for optimized performance on HPC systems.

The training portfolio spans a wide range of courses designed for all levels of experience, from accessible introductory sessions for new users to advanced workshops on parallel programming, GPU computing, code optimization, and debugging. These offerings empower users to harness the full power of VSC’s supercomputing resources, promoting excellence in computational research and development across disciplines.

VSC’s mission is to cultivate a thriving HPC community by equipping users with practical, high-quality training in cutting-edge computational methods. VSC encourages collaboration and skill-sharing between academia, public research institutions, and industry, thereby enhancing Flanders’ capacity for scientific and technological innovation.

VAIA

VAIA, the Flanders AI Academy, is a collaboration between all the universities and universities for applied sciences and arts in Flanders. We aim to let professionals and researchers learn about artificial intelligence: to recognise and use the possibilities. We channel the available expertise on AI from the academic to the business world, thus contributing to the Flemish knowledge economy. With our accessible range of courses and training, we aim to stimulate everybody to adopt lifelong learning.
