About the lecture
This lecture will discuss cases in which patients present with clear autoinflammatory features but do not align with any currently recognized syndrome. It will discuss the core principles of autoinflammation, and will include the evaluation by pattern recognition, exclusion of mimicking conditions and the use of laboratory and genetic tools.
It will also include the manage principles when the disease remains ‘undefined’: how to characterize the inflammatory phenotype, choose empiric therapeutic options and monitor response while ensuring patient safety. It will highlight the importance of longitudinal follow-up and emerging research that may help classify today’s undefined cases into tomorrow’s defined entities.
About the speaker
Prof. Marco Gattorno is a pediatric rheumatologist working at the G. Gaslini institute for Children in Genua, Italy. His main scientific interests involve the study of pathogenic mechanisms of rheumatological conditions in children and the clinical and pathogenic characterization of monogenic autoinflammatory diseases.
