- Martim Joyce-Moniz (Lead Analytic Consultant, FICO, United Kingdom) will give a lecture on “The many hats of an Optimization Consultant”
- Abstract of the seminar: “In this talk, I will present the job of an Optimization Consultant, a possible career path that may be of interest to Operational Research Ph.D. and master students looking forward to applying their expertise to real-life problems. I will explain what are the skills that make a good Optimization Consultant – in particular, I will emphasize how the role requires one to be comfortable wearing many hats: from mathematician to full-stack coder, from subject-matter expert to salesperson. Using my career as a background, I will share the lessons I learned from transitioning from academia to consultancy. Finally, I will present some industry problems my team at FICO and I have been working on.”
Following the lectures, there will be opportunity for young researchers to interact with him.
