Meet the Jury Eneko Unamuno on Control of Interlinking Converters for the Inherent Transfer of Primary and Inertial Response based on an AC and DC Analogy

Arenberg Doctoral School is proud to invite you to Meet The Jury!

When internationally renowned experts visit KU Leuven as a member of a PhD Examination Committee, we like to seize this opportunity to give this expert a forum to a large audience. All members of Science, Engineering & Technology are most welcome to the Meet The Jury Lectures.

Dr. Eneko Unamuno (Mondragon University, Spain) will give a lecture on “Control of Interlinking Converters for the Inherent Transfer of Primary and Inertial Response based on an AC and DC Analogy”.

The rapid transition from traditional power grids dominated by synchronous generators to converter-interfaced generation and storage systems is fundamentally altering the operation of modern power grids. This shift is drastically reducing the inherent grid inertia and generating undesired equipment interactions, introducing critical stability challenges. Moreover, when two grids or segments of a grid are tied through a power electronic interface (e.g. an HVDC link or an SST), their inertial and primary frequency/voltage responses are inherently decoupled. Without proper control, events on one side of the converter remain isolated from the other, preventing the grids from mutually supporting each other during power perturbations.

Following the lecture, there will be opportunity for young researchers to interact with him.
