Mini-symposium on high-risk liver transplantation with various state-of-the-art presentations of distinguished speakers. After a short introduction by Prof. Monbaliu and Dr. Gilbo, Prof. Pirenne will talk about the evolution of liver transplantation in the past 30 years in UZ Leuven. Prof. Romagnoli will talk about the Italian experience in high-risk liver transplantation, what we can learn in Belgium from Italy and what Italy can learn from Belgium. Dr. Korf will speak on the role of immune dysfunction in patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure. Prof. de Meijer will give a presentation on how dynamic liver preservation strategies have impacted daily practice. Prof. Porte will speak on cost-effectiveness of hypothermic machine perfusion of high-risk liver grafts. Lastly, Prof. Martins will give a talk on the future of therapeutics during ex situ machine perfusion of liver grafts.
